Twelve letters carry roughly 80% of written English. E leads at about 12.7%, followed by T, A, O, I and N. At the other end, J, X, Q and Z together account for under 0.5%.

Why it matters
Frequency and points run in opposite directions. Rare letters score more precisely because they are hard to place. A rack of rare tiles looks powerful and plays terribly.

The letter rarity factor rewards words that convert rare tiles into points instead of leaving them stranded. A high rarity score means you are spending expensive letters, not hoarding them.
